About My Chemical Romance
MCR are a five member band from New Jersey. They started in late 2001, when frontman Gerard Way witnessed the tragedy of 9/11 on his way to work in New York, and decided he needed to do something with his life. He wrote the first MCR song ‘Skylines and Turnstiles’, and called his friend Matt Pelissier to come and do drums for it. Gerard couldn’t sing and play guitar at the same time, so he called a loose friend of his, Ray Toro to come and do the guitar parts.
Gerard’s brother Mikey joined the band as a bassist, and gave them the band name ‘My Chemical Romance’, inspired by Irvine Welsh’s book ‘Ecstacy’. Frank Iero’s band, Pencey Prep split up and he joined MCR, describing it as joining his favourite band.
Their first album, I Bought You My Bullets, You Bought Me Your Love was released on eyeball records. They signed to Warner/Reprise, and since then have made 3 more albums; Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade and Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys.
